YouTube’s Charitable Commercial Contest + Cannes

| June 22, 2011

Good Work, a new YouTube charitable initiative that pairs creative talent with non-profits to create promotional videos and commercials, has partnered with the 58th Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity.

The partnership has given rise to a contest that will judge and reward the best video from this initiative at the Festival June 19-25th.   Good Work received over 500 video submissions from creative talent from around the world & narrowed these down to 5 entries that will be shown and judged at the festival.

Do you feel that commercials and short promotional videos are a good way to spread cause-based messages?  Why or why not?  Does the rise of the DVR make this kind of promotion obsolete or less valuable than it once was?  What are some of your favorite cause-based commercials?  View one of my favorites here.
