Vialogues: Officially “Award-winning”!
It’s a good thing, too– “Vialogues: It should totally win an award” just doesn’t have the same ring to it.

Over the weekend at the American Library Association’s annual conference, the American Association of School Librarians (AASL) announced Vialogues as one of the 25 Best Websites for Teaching and Learning in 2012. We can’t begin to describe how proud we were when we received the news.
Vialogues was created on the premise that videos are a powerful resource by which to teach and learn and that the conversations that videos spark can be learning experiences of their own.
It is a great honor to be recognized by an organization made up of forward-thinking educators and librarians and to be in the company of products that move education in new directions.
Vialogues would be nothing without its content and that content comes from YOU! This honor is a result of all of the videos you’ve uploaded and discussions you’ve started. This is your award, Vialogues users. But…. we’ll hold on to it and keep it safe for you while you keep creating those enlightening vialogues.
I found the information in the vialogues true to my own thinking about the education system especially the over-medicating of children when they just need to have their minds stimulated with interesting things. Some children learn differently and I think as parents we need to engage our children more instead of “hoping” the educators are getting it correct. Instead of asking if homework is finished, go over the homework or even incorporate a weekend trip to somewhere that parrellels the school assignment. Having a child is a full time job and if parents are more involved in the education process, that would make a big difference.
I agree with your statement that parents needs to be involved in their children’s education. I think it would make a great difference.
I completely agree with the points made about today’s education. Learning needs to engage every sense possible. When I was in high school, my teacher would have us learn a poem by saying it together three times, then writing it out, discussing the meaning of the poem in class, and then each of us reciting the poem over again. Just about everyone in the class has the entire poem memorized (AND UNDERSTOOD!) in a matter of three days. Discipline should also be brought back into our education system. We are telling kids that they can act inappropriately in class and still pass and learn what they need to know. Most importantly, we have lost the foundation of family. How are our children supposed to want to learn and behave when their parents are not setting the right example. It seems like all parents do is complain about their lives. Why would children want to learn just to grow up to live miserable lives like their parents. Education needs to be a conscious effort across the board-educators, students, and parents alike.
